Take us through a typical day
I work as a live-in support worker in a house supporting two clients who are very different with their needs and daily routines, this makes no two days the same. I must be versatile in my approach to ensure they both receive person specific support.
My day usually starts around 8am, though at times this can be earlier. It begins with assisting with personal care and supporting the client to have a shower. When the client if ready, they are encouraged to select what they would like for their breakfast and are supported in preparing it. My day is usually led by the client who will express in their own way what they would like to do, this is usually a drive followed by a long walk.
What do you like most about your job?
The things I like most about my job is that every day is different, and I learn something new everyday relating to the people we support. At times this can be challenging but with support of the house team I am able to face this head on and find it very rewarding. I am excited to be a part of the FHC family and feel fully supported within my role.
Why did you want to do this job
I chose to do this job as I wanted to enrich the lives of the people we support. I love the work I do and get great satisfaction from seeing the people we support reach their goals.
The role gives me a good work / home balance giving me flexibility with my family if needed.
